The mad rush to eliminate all vestiges of the now infamous old South and Southerners, including destroying every Confederate flag, just had a new victim. According to USA Today, students at Yale petitioned to rename its Calhoun College, because the 1804 Yale alumus, John C. Calhoun, Veep under Andy Jackson, was a strong supporter of slavery.
Among other angry protests, a petition is now in the works to tear down the enormous Confederate Memorial Sculpture, the world’s largest, on Stone Mountain, Georgia. The Southern leaders portrayed are Stonewall Jackson, Jefferson Davis and Robert E. Lee.
OK, if that’s the way they want it, let’s erase all traces of their names everywhere. That includes Michael Jackson, Sammy Davis and Sara Lee.
If that isn’t enough to satisfy the complainers, how about renaming the ten military bases named after Confederate generals. They are Forts Lee, Hood, Benning, Gordon, Bragg, Polk, Pickett, Hill, Rucker and Camp Beuregard. For starters, how about Fort Hillary and Camp Trump?
