Everywhere we roam these days, people are furiously snapping pictures of themselves with their teeny smartphones. Selfies and selfie sticks point everywhere. They click at beaches, rock concerts, sports events, family gatherings, papal visits, political rallies and shamelessly, in private bathroom, backseat and bedroom moments. 

Most people believe those little magic boxes that make instant self portraits are brand new phenoms of the 21st Century. Wrong! The selfie snapshot has long been a part of human history. For example:
